A preliminary agreement between VIRI and the British Council

On September 18, representatives of VIRI and British Council agreed to preliminary agreement on the coordination activities under the frame work of Crafting Futures programme which is including documentation of craft village, supporting and advising young designers on practical approaches to craft villages as well as potential investors. We would like to bring practical support to the village people and start up career of young people.

Crafting Futures is a global programme supporting the development of sustainable craft industries.  In Southeast Asia, the programme aims to foster economic empowerment through the development of creative social enterprise and design-led skills for female artisans and designers. The programme will have a specific focus on promoting social innovation, fair and ethical collaborations, and an appreciation of cultural heritage.

In Vietnam, Crafting Futures will achieve its aim by working to connect creative practitioners (designers) and social and creative enterprises with female artisans and craft makers’ communities, to create more inclusive opportunities for sustainable and ethical craft-based production. Activities of the programme will be designed with a strong focus on skills and capacity building across the areas of design, social innovation, and cultural heritage management.

On September 18, representatives of VIRI and British Council agreed to preliminary agreement on the coordination activities as follows:

 (1) Developing materials and presentations on traditional craft villages in Vietnam and their activities for Crafting Futures participants.

(2) Selecting the handicraft villages for young designers, providing a support staff for accompany young designers for the early stages when they are in the village.

(3) Providing consultancy, training and feedback to participants on their project proposals.

(4) Supporting participants in identifying the potential investors for their project. In addition, VIRI continues to support participant projects, including feedback on projects, proposed improvements, and other practical insights.

(5) Supporting the British Council and the University of Leicester to develop activities for Years 2 and 3 of the program based on the assessment of Year 1.

With the above activities, we would like to bring practical support to the village people and start up career of young people.
