Sub-project kick-off meeting in Thua Thien Hue province

With funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), within the framework of the Green Annamites project, Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI) organized a kick-off meeting of the subproject “Sustainable production and responsible consumption of medicinal plant and handicraft products for livelihood improvement and reduced wildlife poaching for enhancing biodiversity conservation in Thua Thien Hue province”. The subproject will be implemented in three districts of Nam Dong, Quang Dien and A Luoi of Thua Thien Hue Province from September 2019 to September 2020.

With funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID), within the framework of the Green Annamites project, Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI) organized a kick-off meeting of the subproject  “Sustainable production and responsible consumption of medicinal plant and handicraft products for livelihood improvement and reduced wildlife poaching for enhancing biodiversity conservation in Thua Thien Hue province”. The subproject will be implemented in three districts of Nam Dong, Quang Dien and A Luoi of Thua Thien Hue Province from September 2019 to September 2020.

The subproject aims to improve livelihoods for local people through promoting sustainable production and responsible consumption of local products to enhance biodiversity conservation. With market-oriented governance, VIRI and USAID Green Annamites Project will promote sustainable production and responsible consumption of local specialty products such as medicinal plants and handicrafts.

The subproject aims to sustainable production of handicraft products, products from medicinal plants as well as other local products. Accordingly, the main criteria applied are: using of local techniques and materials; respecting local traditional cultural values; minimizing natural materials, minimizing the use of chemicals or waste to the environment; minimizing production time and meeting the requirements of customers.
