Two consultation meetings on the code of conduct on environmentally responsible business practices for the coffee sector and the fruit & vegetable sector

Within the framework of the project “Advancing environmentally responsible business for the coffee sector and the fruit & vegetable sector in Vietnam”, on September 22th and September 24th, Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI) in collaboration with the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (VICOFA) and the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT) held 02 online meetings “Consultation on the draft Code of Conduct on Environmentally Responsible Business Practices” for the coffee sector and the fruit and vegetable sector in order to finalize the Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct targets small, medium and micro enterprises, and farmer households. The two consultation meetings had the participation of Mr. Patrick Haverman, Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam, Mr. Ola Karlman, Head of Economic and Political Affairs, Embassy of Sweden in Vietnam. The meeting participants are enterprises and cooperatives operating in Vietnam in coffee and fruit & vegetable sectors, agricultural departments, universities, research institutes, international organizations.

Businesses and cooperatives actively support the Code of Conduct on environmentally responsible business towards environmentally responsible business practices for a better future. The two meetings received many valuable comments from participants including businesses and experts, research institutes and international organizations. In the next step, the research team, VIRI and two associations will based on these valuable comments to revise and finalize the Code of Conduct on environmentally responsible business.

After the meeting, a number of organizations desired to have further opportunities for mutual collaboration on environment and sustainable development. This is a good sign in the process of project implementation.

It is expected that on October 27, 2021, the project will organize a launching workshop for two Codes of Conduct on environmentally responsible business for the coffee sector and the fruit & vegetable sector.
