The two codes of conduct on environmentally responsible business practices for the coffee sector and the fruit & vegetable sector
|02 Code of Conducts on environmentally responsible business practices for the coffee sector and the fruit and vegetable sector in Vietnam are the independent and voluntary set of standards that aims to establish appropriate standards on environmentally responsible practices in production and processing for enterprises, cooperatives, and farmer households in the coffee industry in Vietnam. Members of the Vietnam Coffee-Cocoa Association, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT) and other coffee, fruit and vegetable producing businesses and farmer households in Vietnam are encouraged to apply CoCs.
The objective of the CoCs are to promote sustainable development of the coffee sector and the fruit and vegetable sector through promoting environmentally responsible business practices to mitigate the negative impacts of the coffee sector units’ production and processing activities on the environment and human rights related to environment. These rights include the right to having a safe, clean, fresh and sustainable environment, and the right to health safety of workers, farm households and communities and related stakeholders in two sector. In addition, the CoCs also aims to assist businesses in the coffee sector to prepare for international certifications through meeting requirements and related provisions of the two free trade agreements to which Vietnam is a member, the European Union–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
The Code of Conduct is developed by the Vietnam Rural Industry Research and Development Institute (VIRI) and the Vietnam Coffee – Cocoa Association (VICOFA), the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VINAFRUIT) with technical support from the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam (UNDP in Vietnam). The Code of Conducts are part of the project “Advancing environmentally responsible business for the coffee sector and fruit & vegetable sector in Vietnam” funded by the Government of Sweden and UNDP Vietnam.
