CoKo Namilk is identified by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hanoi as one of the households at risk of child labor in Duong Lieu craft village, Hoai Duc, Hanoi within the framework of Implementation Agreement to provide livelihood support for households in Hanoiunder the project “Enhancing the National Capacity to Prevent and Reduce Child Labour in Viet Nam” (ENHANCE) which were funded by ILO

At the beginning of the project, households were quite shy when mentioned to child labor issues, product quality, occupational safety … However, VIRI’s project staff worked directly with households, persuade and explain to the household more about the project as well as outstanding issues that the household may be facing. Besides, knowledge of marketing, safety, hygiene, product quality, product testing, product cost calculation, book management … are all enhanced.

Not only that, with the project’s support for tools and part of the cost to repair production facilities to ensure occupational safety and health, households voluntarily contribute additional funds (about more than 200 million VND) to improve their Factory infrastructure to ensure labor safety for employees and improve product quality. Improvements in working conditions include: transparent plastic door closers for fly-proofing, better re-arrangement of furniture and subdivisions, improved flood protection, areas with clear signs for easy identification, improved cleaning and management …

In particular, household was consulted by a senior expert of VIRI on the improvement of product quality and its packaging helped the household’s product be present at high-end stores in Hanoi and the Hue city.

Households are very grateful to see the change and are willing to participate in the certification of production households without child labor as well as share their stories with other production facilities or other households.
