Project “Study on local specialties development in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province”

After 05 months, the Project has built 3 production groups: Sam Nam soy cooperative (Nam Dan Town), Hung Hai peanut oil facilities (Group 2, Xuan Hoa Commune), Nam Anh kudzu and turmeric powder cooperative group. These local specialities were supported by JICA Project to display and present in big events in and out of the province. At the meeting of Nghe An investors in 2017, those products were highly praised by local government officers. Project “Study on local specialties development in Nam Dan district, Nghe An province” was conducted from November 2016 to March 2017 in Nam Dan District, Nghe An Province. The Project was funded by JICA with VIRI as consultant agency. Within the framework of the Project, these activities were conducted: (1) Select households and groups to participate in the Project, (2) Capacity building for groups to improve production and technical training for creating new products with readily available resources (kudzu powder, peanut, lime salt, etc.), (3) Support and supervise production activities to ensure product quality and production procedures as instructed, (4) Support the registration for food hygiene safety standards and certificate, (5) Packaging design, (6) Support quality assessment registration. The aim of these activities were to conserve and sustainably develop local specialities for Nam Dan District, Nghe An Province. After 05 months, the Project has built 3 production groups: Sam Nam soy cooperative (Nam Dan Town), Hung Hai peanut oil facilities (Group 2, Xuan Hoa Commune), Nam Anh kudzu and turmeric powder cooperative group. These groups were supported with technical support and packaging designs for products such as Nam Dan soy paste, peanut oil, peanut butter, kudzu powder, lime kudzu powder, ginger kudzu powder. These local specialities were supported by JICA Project to display and present in big events in and out of the province. At the meeting of Nghe An investors in 2017, those products were highly praised by local government officers. Currently, those products sell very well at the local markets as well as in the neighboring provinces. VIRI consultant will continue to monitor and consult with the groups to ensure the project sustainability and moving toward new models in the coming period.
