Preliminary meeting in Phu Quoc

On March 14, 2025, the Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute (VIRI) in collaboration with DBLP Company Limited and the Farmers’ Association held a preliminary meeting of the project “Commercial seaweed cultivation for career transition and climate change response in coastal provinces” in Bai Thom commune, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province.
In Kien Giang, the project was implemented from January 2025 with the participation of seven households belonging to the Rach Tram Hamlet Cage Fish Farming Cooperative. The meeting was attended by Mr. Truong Xuan Quy, Director of the Farmers’ Support Center, Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association; Mr. Do Tran Thinh, Chairman of the Kien Giang Farmers’ Association; leaders of the Phu Quoc City Farmers’ Association, leaders of the Party Committee, People’s Committee, and Farmers’ Association of Bai Thom commune, members of the Rach Tram Hamlet Cage Fish Farming Cooperative and representatives of VIRI, DBLP Company Limited.
At the meeting, delegates evaluated the project’s implementation results in the past time, learned from practical experience and discussed upcoming plans. Comments from local people and representatives helped the project make appropriate adjustments, towards sustainable development and model replication. Recently, some seaweed growth has slowed down, requiring the project team and households to closely monitor, find out the cause and apply appropriate technical measures to ensure seaweed productivity and quality.
