After 20 years of operation (1997 – 2017), on December 16th, 2017, Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute has organized a Ceremony to celebrate its 20 years at Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. The ceremony is aimed to look back at VIRI path in its contributions to research, preservation and promotion of traditional trades, its journey with ethnic minorities and poor women in the work to reduce poverty of the whole country. At the same time, VIRI outlines its development strategies in the coming times. More than 100 representatives from government agencies, domestic and international organizations, and embassies, as well as Vietnamese and Japanese media have participated in the ceremony.

Vietnam Rural Industries Research and Development Institute was established in 1997 by Vietnam Association of Anthropology and Ethnology and licensed by Ministry of Science and Technology.

In the last 20 years, VIRI has organized more than 1000 events, 10,000 training hours, 100 researches, of which, 50 researches have been put into practice. We have supported 200 production groups, with 50,000 households, 80% of whom are women. Their income have passed minimum wage.

With more than 10,000 training hours with hand-on practice, locally in the field, we have built many highly responsible production groups with products of high quality and clear origin.

After 20 years in operation, VIRI has more than 100 application research, including 50 researches being put into practice, real benefits are made to 200 production groups with 50,000 households. VIRI researches problems of clean production, environment, biological technology and improvements to value chains to protect and improve the environment.

VIRI has organized and participated in many events with the active participation of ethnic minorities and poor people, with the support of government agencies as well as domestic and international organizations.

At the ceremony, Vietnam Association of Anthropology and Ethnology, VIRI’s governing body, has highly regarded VIRI operations for the last 20 years. In addition, the association has said words of encouragement for VIRI’s mission and has awarded VIRI staffs and 04 personnels with successful achievements.
In the ceremony, international organizations have sent congratulations  and praises for VIRI in the work to support ethnic minorities and poor people, contributing in sustainable development. Representatives from Suoi Co traditional paper producer and Pha Village orange cooperative group have said thank you for VIRI’s support.

At the end of the ceremony, VIRI representative has sent thanks to Vietnam Association of Anthropology and Ethnology, sponsors, and partners for their support and showed hopes to continue working together in the near future.

Within the ceremony, a number of products from production groups, cooperative groups and cooperatives supported by VIRI through the years were displayed such as: brocade, dried vegetables, essential oils, foot soak salt, pepper, etc.

Engaging activities such as traditional paper making, traditional Nghe Tinh performance, product taste testing were running throughout the ceremony.
